The Fallen Gods

96 Miles from Delith, Astravora's Keep

This journey has been very easy before today. All day on a horse does tend to really make you feel some interesting pain in your…areas, but it sure beats walking this distance. Two days passed without event. Some small towns along the way, many beautiful things to see amidst the war torn countryside. We don’t talk too much, the party that is. Sarah does enough for the lot of us. Plus I think the way we were all paired together with no real background… some of the soldiers here are stoic, somber characters. The dwarf and the ‘paladin’ especially. Barrus is charming and Keecree, well, he is a curious individual.

Today, the voyage started off normally until just after mid-afternoon, we were spotted by a band of bandits (tee hee band of bandits, as if they could play anything) who promptly attacked us! It was horrible. So much needless bloodshed. Luckily, by Mother’s Mercy, were able to over power them with no casualties on our side, and we even spared six of them. Keecree was able to knock three out, I one, and Koromor and I made the leader yield. After healing, reviving, and performing rites for the dead, we were able to learn where they were from and headed that way.

This is a huge complex and a huge operation they were running. My heart goes out to all the plundered and pillaged homes and families of this land. I hope to return to them after my mission to Zaira. The whole thing was being led by an awful woman named Astravora. We met briefly. She really doesn’t like me. I read some verses and played coy with her and she attacked me with such ferocity. By my Mother’s Mercy, I was protected. Not a single blow landed on me. Then our brave and noble Koromor challenged Astravora to a duel on my behalf. He is a great man underneath all his crass hardness. I know it. The two exchanged blow for blow with our man besting her in combat. She was true to her word and all the bandits packed up and left, leaving us to rest for the night. I am so happy that more blood wasn’t unnecessarily spilled.

Once everyone had left, Valan accompanied me and guarded my while I communed with mother. Turns out, this sword hilt I found is a Sun Blade. We all found some magical items so thats nice. Right now we are waiting for morning to come so we can continue on. I know I’ve skipped over a lot, but I am tired and, well, I am scared. The images of our battle keep flashing through my head. So much blood. The sounds, oh, the sounds. The pale lifeless bodies lying on the ground as we dragged them in row and administered to them. It was horrible. I’ve cried so much today, but I didn’t let anyone see. Even now, all are sleeping, I let my tears fall, but quietly because Aeofel is meditating. They can’t see me like this. I am the cleric, I am the light. I am my mother’s Paragon. I am stronger than this.

Meeting Queen Rayna

Today was great day! I finally got to leave the temple all on my own. The high Priestess who communes with my Mother Mercy was instructed to send me to meet the Queen today. Apparently, those two members of the Queen’s council who fled two years ago are wanted to be found and the Queen is assembling a task force to do so. I will finally be able to prove to Mother Mercy that I am worthy to bear her symbols and sword, to be a her representative in life. The other members of the mission party are all vastly different. We couldn’t be a more curiously entertaining sight.

  • First there is this shrewd, scarred dwarf, an old enemy of the crown, a member of a royal family who supported King Niran and Cerania. Apparently he was disowned by his family and cast out for rebellion or something. He doesn’t socialize much, but I think he’ll come around once I give the good ’ole Lilah charm!
  • Second is a cute, and endearing Aarakocra. His mannerisms are so queer as he is quite without standard common social etiquette. I think he and I have already struck a friendship and I am determined to make a respectable member of society out of him yet! He has sadness in eyes though, and that makes me sad, so i will have to give him something to smile about :)
  • Third is a dashing and charismatic human bard, Barrus (aren’t they all though :) ). I’ve only heard him but twiddle on his Vielle, but even that was breath-taking. I’m sure he will make this adventure tolerable when all else fails. Nothing like beautiful melody to brighten everyone’s mood.
  • The last recruited member of our company is a quiet and terse Paladin named Valan, though I still haven’t been able to figure out his deity of homage. He appears to have military experience, the way he stands, the briskness and obedience in his voice. I’m glad to have someone trained in that manner alongside me as we journey. Our mission should prove to be a dangerous one.
  • And then there is Aeofel. He is every woman’s dream beau… except maybe dwarves… and sailors… or maybe Half-Orcs. I’m quite certain he is an Eladrin! Why they’re almost as rare as I am! He is the Queen’s personal aide or assistant or court wizard or something. He worked alongside the people we are tracking down and will provide us insights into their actions. I could look at him forever, though I get the feeling he is uninterested. Maybe it’s a ploy, maybe his heart is elsewhere, who knows. Well anyway, you know what they say, “This little light of mine. I’m gonna let it shine!” And I will let it shine.

So that’s all for today, we will be beginning our journey soon (so excited!!) for Zaria, where the targets were last seen. They are horrible, horrible people who have caused a lot of pain and sorrow and shed innocent blood. I feel Mother Mercy’s energy burning inside me as I think of them. I must stop the pain, and bring peace to all the people of the land. That is my purpose and my destiny. I won’t let you down, Mother.
